this series is part of an ongoing body of work that explores the semantic duality of the interior, specifically the relationship between the spatial interior and the psychological interior. the series is also concerned with how the interaction between the interior and exterior in the spatial realm can extend into the psychological realm. some of the images include figures while others depict an absent presence. here, the interior space is the true subject of the image, capable of serving as a passive portrait of the occupant. the domestic interior ultimately embodies the convergence of our own physicality and psychology -- how we live in the physical world and how we live in our minds.

the use of light in these images serves both an aesthetic and metaphorical purpose. the interaction bewteen light and subject matter references one of the most fundamental relationships in our universe: that of light to matter. in capturing an interaction between the interior and exterior through light, which penetrates acting as an exterior force, an aesthetic effect within the images is achieved which conveys this internal/external relationship. the metaphorical purpose of this relationship between light and the subject matter is meant to elicit an understanding of how an exterior force can penetrate and illuminate our own psychological interiors.
